Stagno d'Alcontres

The House of Stagno d'Alcontres is a noble Sicilian family, of Spanish origin mainly in the province of Messina.
==History==
The House of Stagno is traced to Don Bernardo Estagnol, a Spanish nobleman, counselor to the king Frederick III of Aragon, governor of the duchies of Neopatria and Athens. His son Tommaso, belonging to the family of the king Louis of Aragon was invested in 1314 Baron of Scuderi, Passarelli and Calandrino; in turn his son Guglielmo (William), keeping the titles of his father, was named in 1365 by the king Frederick IV of Aragon "''domesticum familiarem et fidelem nostrum''".
In time, the family of Stagno has linked in XVIII century with the Ardoino, princes of Alcontres and Palizzi and previously also with the house of Navarre, the Campolo, the Saccano, the Alliata, the Ruffo Floresta; in nineteenth century was related still with the Asmundo, the Monroy and Barlotta and Villadicani .
Currently there are three branches direct descendants of Bernardo Estagnol: the Stagno d'Alcontres, the Stagno Navarra and the Saccano Stagno.
